Family Law
Family law is the law that serves to govern relationships between members of a family, with respect to their rights and responsibilities.
You may be scared to begin your “fight” publicly. You may not want to have this fight in court and you may be concerned about trusting an attorney that you may not know.
I provide experienced guidance and counsel to ensure you protect your interests during a divorce.
Divorce Mediation
Mediation and negotiation, both Alternative Dispute mechanisms, are sometimes necessary to allow for more flexibility in resolving a dispute. In the case of divorces, this may also be helpful to insulate parties from having detrimental fights before a Judge in a courtroom. Or, it may prevent Wisconsin litigants from making “bad” decisions and putting judgments in the unmitigated hands of Judges when the litigant might be on the wrong side of the fight.
It is important for you to consider to importance of finding the right person to protect you in mediated and negotiated disputes. I have been a court-appointed mediator. And, I have privately mediated a number of disputes through my law firm. I have privately participated in mediation and negotiation as a party-representative.
I have served as a court-appointed mediator and was trained by former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice in mediation matters. In addition to my law degree and my experience working with many clients, I have a graduate certificate in Dispute Resolution from a top-10 legal dispute resolution program.
Drafting Prenuptial Agreements
Many times, it will be best for you to consider that – while you may be in the middle of the exciting process of getting married – things may lead to divorce, legal separation, or death. If they do lead to divorce, you can control the division of assets by entering into a prenuptial agreement. For this, you will want to consult someone you feel comfortable with.
Divorce Representation
In bringing a divorce before the court, you may feel uncertain about the process and uneasy doing so yourself. However, the idea of involving an attorney may be even more overwhelming. While I am a zealous advocate, I am also good at hand-holding. It is my practice to make my client feel comfortable while encouraging creative options, and working to get them the best possible outcome.
